Dr. Andreas Braun

At PwC Luxembourg, I help public institutions and companies put AI to work in ways that are useful, lawful and trustworthy.

I'm Managing Director of AI there and built the Data Science & AI practice from scratch, starting in 2018. I'm also the firm's Public Sector AI Lead and PwC Luxembourg's representative in PwC's Global Responsible AI Network.

I started my career in applied research at Fraunhofer IGD in Darmstadt. There I built sensing systems for smart environments and later led a competence centre of around 20 researchers. That engineering background still shapes how I look at AI: start from what the system actually does.

What I work on

Responsible AI & the EU AI Act

Turning the AI Act into working practice: role allocation, transparency duties, general-purpose AI obligations and governance that holds up in day-to-day operations.

AI in the public sector

AI strategy and governance for public administrations and European institutions, where accountability and trust carry particular weight.

Building AI capability

Growing teams, methods and infrastructure so organisations can move from pilots to AI that runs in production. That includes compute and digital sovereignty in Europe.

I'm happy to have exploratory conversations with public administrations, European bodies and companies about AI governance and putting the AI Act into practice.

Speaking & media

I speak and moderate on AI governance, the EU AI Act, AI in the public sector and European AI sovereignty, and occasionally return to my research roots in sensing and activity recognition.

Research roots

Between 2009 and 2014 I published more than 30 papers on capacitive sensing, indoor localisation and ambient assisted living. The work ranged from beds that recognise sleep posture and floors that track people to gesture-controlled furniture and an open-source sensing toolkit.
